A relatively new innovation in Facebook is the introduction of ‘vanity’ URLs for both profiles and pages. There’s nothing terribly vain about them – it just means you can have a shorter, more meaningful, unique URL (web address) for your Facebook page than the default string of numbers.
I’ve just got one for the Facebook page for this book/blog. So, I no longer have to direct you to
www.facebook.com/pages/Get-Up-to-Speed-with-Online-Marketing/133980626621610 but to the more concise, memorable, and meaningful www.facebook.com/getuptospeed. Much better.
I could only do this once 25 of you had ‘liked’ the Facebook page (thank you – my copy editor will be delighted!) If you have 25 or more fans of your page, you can claim yours too. Here’s how:
1. Go to www.facebook.com/username. By default, the search box is to choose a username for your profile – not your page. Click on ‘Set a username for your Pages’ underneath the box. This username will become the last part of your web address, i.e. www.facebook.com/username.

2. If you have several pages, choose the one you want to set a username for from the drop-down menu.

3. Enter the username you want, and click ‘Check availability’.

4. If your name isn’t available, you can keep choosing until you come up with one that is. If it is available, read the warning message (basically saying you can’t change it!), and click ‘Confirm’

5. You now have a unique web address for your Facebook page!

Nicely done, Jon!
I recently created a biz page on Facebook and within a matter of just a few hours, I had over 50 “Likers”. Was I doing the happy dance? You bet!
Due to the love and support of my online family (and a simple little special request), I was able to get my vanity URL. I’m blessed to have such wonderful backing from some of the neatest people on the web.
